The 34th West Coast Jalsa Salana: A Gathering of Peace and Friendship

Updated: Mar 20, 2023

Compassionate Service Society and Venerable Hang Truong were invited to attend the 34th West Coast Jalsa Salana 2019 hosted by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community of Southern California. The Jalsa Salana is a formal, annual gathering in the Ahmadiyya Community with the purpose "to enable every sincere individual to personally experience religious benefits; They may enhance their knowledge and - due to their being blessed and enabled by Allah, The Exalted - their perception [of Allah] may progress. Among its secondary benefits is that this congregational meeting together will promote mutual introduction among all brothers, and it will strengthen the fraternal ties within this Community..." (Mirza Ghulam Ahmad).

This is the third time that CSS has participated in this annual event at Baitul Hameed Mosque in Chino, California. The Compassionate Service Society delegation led by Venerable Hang Truong joined this peaceful event to embrace openness and diversity and continue the great friendship with Imam Mohammed Zafarullah and the Ahmadiyya Muslim community that was fostered when we invited them to join the Tea Meditation Ceremony for Religious Harmony in 2015.

Several dignitaries including City of Chino Mayor Eunice Ulloa, US Congresswoman Norma Torres, along with mayors of neighboring cities took the podium and acknowledged the growth of the Ahmadiyya Muslim group and its positive contributions to the local community. Venerable Hang Truong was invited to speak on the topic of Compassion in Time of Crisis. In his speech, Venerable Hang Truong emphasized that compassion has to be embedded in our daily actions, thoughts, our breath, and not only in mere speech. He reminisced the experience of meeting with the current Ahmadiyya Khalifa, His Holiness Mirza Masroor Ahmad, for the first time in London. At that meeting, Ven. Hang Truong was pleasantly surprised when His Holiness turned to him and spontaneously said, “We are brothers.” Master Hang Truong truly felt the compassion exuding from His Holiness’ words, his manner, and through his deep penetrating eyes. Over the years, the friendship that was forged between Imam Zafarullah and Master Hang Truong continues to blossom and transcend culture, border and spirituality.
