The Collective Praying’s Effect (via Zoom)

A Report by the Compassionate Service Society of Houston, Texas

Birth, Aging, Sickness, and Death are the inevitable laws of human life. Not only humans, but all things in the universe are also governed by the law of Formation, Existence, Decay, and Destruction. These four stages are referred to as impermanence. In our lives, impermanence often visits us, for example:

Mind Impermanence: Our emotions change from one moment to the next, sometimes we feel joyful and happy, and other times we feel sad, suffering, and fearful.

Body Impermanence: Our physical state fluctuates between health and sickness, especially when we face serious illness or suddenly fall gravely ill.

When confronted with impermanence, especially in situations where health is in critical condition and life hangs by a thread, almost everyone wishes for a quick recovery in both mind and body, particularly when they are still young and have yet to fulfill their duties, responsibilities, and aspirations in life.

However, from a spiritual perspective, there is a more miraculous method with an incomprehensible effect. The following story is a clear example of this.

As members of the Compassionate Service Society (CSS), practicing under the guidance of Master Hằng Trường according to the Huayan School, collective prayer for those in difficult circumstances has become a tradition of CSS in Houston.

Therefore, when a member of the Society or their family and friends request spiritual assistance, the members of the Society eagerly gather everyone on Zoom to chant 21 recitations of the Great Compassion Mantra every evening for a week, wholeheartedly praying to Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva for healing blessings for others.

According to Master’s teachings, with a connected heart and sincere intention, even in a short period, even chanting the Great Compassion Mantra for just 2-3 seconds is enough. With utmost sincerity in prayer, responses can come very quickly. This often happens every month or two in our Society. The most recent case was that of Mr. Rocky Phạm, who was in a weakened state due to severe illness (septic shock) and required treatment in the ICU.

His wife, Ms. Phi, felt a deep sense of despair and informed the CSS-Houston group, requesting a collective prayer for the powerful blessings of Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva to help Mr. Rocky overcome the critical illness, recover, and be healed.

The CSS-Houston group fulfilled her request by chanting 21 recitations of the Great Compassion Mantra every evening at 9 p.m. for a week. Everyone also prayed for Ms. Phi to maintain her spirit and have the strength to endure and cope with the situation, especially to care for her husband during his time in the hospital and when he returned home.

In the end, Mr. Rocky overcame the critical situation, his health stabilized, and he returned home to reunite with his family, where he is now being cared for by his wife. Mr. Rocky’s family is deeply grateful for the compassion and concern shown by the members of CSS-Houston.

Through many cases over the years, placing wholehearted faith in the healing power of Avalokiteshvara Bodhisattva and the miraculous effects of the Great Compassion Mantra is truly beyond comprehension. We are deeply grateful for the guidance of our Master and for the dedicated members of the Society who are always ready to offer their sincere prayers whenever they hear that a member or their family needs collective spiritual support.

We prayed for Mr. Rocky by chanting 21 recitations of the Great Compassion Mantra every evening at 9 p.m. for a week.
