In Mahayana Buddhism, the Ullambana Period is the time to honor the ancestors, send blessings to loved ones and offer compassion to those who are sufferings in the dark realms.
Attached is a lecture given by Dharma Master Hằng Trường and translated into English on the meaning of filial piety in Buddhism.
In that spirit, we would like to share a message from chị Phương Anh Nguyễn that illustrates the love and care of a daughter towards her ailing mother and the appreciation message from her mom to the community members praying for her during her sickness.
Recovering from COVID with a happy ending!!
My mom is elderly and has dementia, along with a few other chronic diseases. She is fragile mentally and physically. So, when there are changes to her routines or environment, even the slightest change, she easily becomes confused, anxious, and overwhelmed. Her ability to handle complexity is no longer there.
Due to Mom’s aging process and comorbidities, her immune system is also in decline. Therefore, contracting a COVID infection was an ordeal for Mom to go through. A COVID treatment (antiviral drug and steroid) was administered because the infection caused her hemodynamic instability.
The side effects of antiviral drugs and steroid can complicate her weak body. So, as soon as COVID pneumonia was ruled out, these drugs were discontinued. Our Mom gradually overcomed the difficult moments. 🙏🙏🙏
Due to her mental state, forgetfulness and inability to comprehend information, it is hard for Mom to be aware, understand, and express her feelings when she is sick, especially when there is an infection. Mom relies on her family for her survival and needs. Our loving care, dedication, understanding, and patience are what Mom can treasure and rely on at this stage of her life.
Even with all her health challenges, Mom always feels joy and comfort receiving visits from family, friends, and even guests.
Thank you for all your prayers. 🙏🙏🙏
