There are five types of feelings that not only Bodhisattva practitioners but also ordinary people can encounter. When ordinary people face these situations, they often react negatively. In contrast, Bodhisattva practitioners should avoid negativity and understand that all these occurrences stem from their own energy and vibrations.
The energy attraction occurs because the five internal organs (heart, liver, spleen, lungs, and kidneys) are not balanced or healthy. When these organs are out of harmony, they attract negative external events. For example, if you often feel wronged, it may be due to excessive negative earth energy, meaning your spleen is not functioning well. Similarly, jealousy and envy arise when negative metal energy dominates, indicating poor lung health.
Today, let’s talk about a phenomenon everyone experiences—being misunderstood.
If the negative water energy in your body is too strong, you will attract misunderstandings and often say things that lead others to misunderstand you!
What is negative water energy?
In your body, there is ‘kidney water system’ which includes the kidneys and the bladder. In Western medicine, the kidneys’ role is to filter blood, removing toxins and unnecessary substances to excrete them. Filtration and excretion are the primary tasks of the kidneys and bladder, which work tirelessly day and night.
Why is it called "water"? Because the substances filtered by the kidneys from the blood are turned into liquid (urine) and excreted. This connection between filtration and water earned it the name "kidney water." Water always flows downward, which explains why the bladder is located at the lowest point of the torso (excluding the limbs). Blood is pumped throughout the body, and the kidneys filter it by extracting toxins, which are excreted through the bladder as urine.
Water is essential. Ancient people often compared water to “supreme goodness,” saying, “The highest virtue is like water.” Water is entirely non-confrontational, gentle, and non-destructive, yet it erodes everything over time. A noble person, or one pursuing spiritual cultivation, should embody the characteristics of water.
Negative water energy is like water frozen into ice. Striking someone with a block of ice can be lethal. While water flows smoothly and harmoniously, ice becomes rigid and oppositional. Similarly, overly heated water, such as boiling water, can scald and harm. Thus, there must be balance—not too much yin or yang, neither excess nor deficiency. This balance applies to kidney water and to our temperament. A calm and harmonious demeanor fosters positive connections with others.
When you speak confrontationally, it’s because the water in your body is rigid, and you often refuse to listen to others. Listening involves the ears, which are connected to the kidneys. The more damaged the kidneys, the poorer the hearing. Thus, to balance the water energy in the body, one must practice listening. Listening before responding fosters gentleness.
When conversing with someone, allow them to speak first. Take a deep breath while they talk to absorb their ideas and emotions fully. This helps you understand their intentions and feelings behind their words, enhancing the strength of your kidney water. On the other hand, if you constantly dominate conversations, your water energy will weaken.
Some people speak harshly or abruptly: it might be because they lack water energy. Others speak gently and soothingly, making you want to listen endlessly. Those who speak too softly lack sufficient water energy. Water, like its nature, symbolizes balance. "The highest virtue is like water" reflects the wisdom of balance. When wisdom is present, your speech becomes clear, structured, and purposeful. You articulate with order and deliberation, which improves your kidney function.
Those with weak kidneys often fail to listen to others, speak excessively, or raise their voices unnecessarily. To balance kidney water, one should:
Cultivate positive water energy by thinking clearly and responsibly.
Speak coherently and express ideas in a structured, logical, and sequential manner.
Focus on spiritual development. Spirituality reflects depth, much like water flows toward the deepest point. A selfless heart is like water flowing into the vast ocean, while selfishness is like water shrinking into a trickle. If you obsess over petty, selfish concerns, your inner flow will eventually stagnate.
To avoid misunderstandings, it’s not about eloquence but about speaking with selfless, open, and generous intentions aimed at helping others.
When misunderstood, remember that it stems from your energy. Be patient and wait for the right time to clarify, if necessary. Often, explanations aren't required because people will naturally come to understand. Actions are more powerful than words, so sometimes no explanation is needed.
Reflect on this: most misunderstandings are self-attracted. The most crucial step is to balance your kidney energy by directing your thoughts toward the spiritual path.
